Coverage for every journey
Key areas of RV insurance coverage
RVs combine transportation, living space and valuable belongings, creating risks that standard auto or home insurance may not fully address. We can help arrange protection for motorhomes, camper vans, travel trailers, fifth wheels and other eligible recreational vehicles, based on your province or territory, RV type and usage.
Third-party liability
Covers eligible bodily injury or property damage you may cause to others while operating your motorized RV, including covered legal defence and settlement costs.
Accident benefits
Provides eligible medical, rehabilitation, income replacement, funeral or death benefits following a collision, according to the coverage available in your province or territory.
Direct compensation for property damage
Pays for eligible damage to your motorized RV and its contents when another insured driver is at fault, where this coverage applies.
Uninsured motorist and family protection
Provides protection when an uninsured or unidentified driver causes injury or damage, while family protection may supplement recovery when the at-fault driver has insufficient liability limits.
All perils
Combines collision and comprehensive protection for your RV or motorhome, covering insured losses such as collisions, rollovers, theft, fire, hail and falling objects. It may also cover theft or damage caused by someone in your household, usually under one deductible, subject to policy terms and exclusions.
Collision
Helps pay to repair or replace your RV when it is damaged in a collision, rollover or impact with another vehicle or object, subject to your deductible and policy terms.
Comprehensive
Protects your RV against insured losses not caused by collision, such as theft, vandalism, fire, hail, severe weather, falling objects or contact with wildlife.
Contents and personal belongings
May cover eligible personal property kept in your RV, beyond the limited protection that may be available through a home, condo or tenant policy.
Protection beyond the basics
Additional coverage for your RV lifestyle
An RV is both a vehicle and a home away from home. Depending on your insurer and policy, optional coverage can help with costs if a covered loss disrupts your trip or damages your accommodations, equipment or investment.
Emergency roadside service
Can help arrange towing, battery boosts, tire service, fuel delivery or other eligible assistance when a covered breakdown interrupts your trip.
Emergency vacation expense coverage
May help cover eligible transportation, accommodation or meal expenses if a covered loss leaves your RV unusable while you are away from home.
Full-time usage
This covers you for personal liability and property if you live or travel in your RV full-time.
Replacement cost or total loss protection
If eligible, this coverage may provide enhanced settlement options when a newer RV is declared a total loss, subject to policy limits and conditions.
Attached accessories and equipment
Coverage may be available for permanently installed awnings, appliances, solar equipment and other eligible accessories, subject to declared values and policy terms.
Peer-to-peer rentals
This covers you if you rent your RV or trailer to someone who isn’t already on your insurance plan.

“If you install solar panels on your RV, they can be insured. Just be sure to let your broker know so they can ensure you have the right coverage.” – Ben Walkey, Client Advisor

FAQs for RV insurance
Depending on the insurer, RV insurance may be available for:
- Class A, B and C motorhomes
- Camper vans and truck campers
- Travel trailers and fifth wheels
- Tent trailers and pop-up campers
- Park models and stationary trailers, where eligible
Eligibility, available coverages and policy requirements vary by insurer, vehicle type and province or territory.
A tow vehicle’s liability coverage may extend to an attached trailer while it is being towed, but it generally does not protect the trailer itself against theft, fire, weather or collision damage. Separate coverage can also protect contents and address risks while the trailer is parked or stored.
Coverage may include liability, accident benefits, collision, comprehensive, uninsured motorist protection, contents, attached equipment, emergency roadside service and trip interruption expenses. Availability varies by insurer and jurisdiction.
Optional contents coverage may protect eligible belongings kept in the RV. Review limits and exclusions for high-value items, sporting equipment and property used for business.
Some policies limit the number of days an RV can be occupied or exclude full-time use. Tell your advisor if you travel for extended periods, live in the RV, rent it out or keep it at a seasonal site so the policy reflects your actual use.
Many Canadian policies provide coverage for temporary travel in Canada and the United States, subject to territorial limits and policy conditions. Confirm the destination, trip length and liability limits with your Navacord advisor before departure.
